White noise is more or less a misnomer, because while white noise is basically a stochastic and random background noise (whether it is of a natural or man-made natural), it is usually used to help relax or calm the person listening to it by providing a gentle and subtle distraction. White noise sound machines are designed for the purpose of generating such types of 'noise', and like most products out there, come in a variety of designs and functionality. A white noise sound machine usually comes with some basic standard settings, adjustable via a control knob or buttons, which lets the user select from a number of settings such as the volume, frequency and type of white noise. One particularly interesting use of white noise sound machines is to produce sounds (perhaps other noises, or sounds like waterfall, or the wind) that mask daily noises like traffic, animals and other people. It is not so much the actual white noise that is produced which provides the effect, but rather in re-focusing the attention of the listener onto something less stressful. People who work third shifts, or have the medical condition tinnitus, and even people who are trying to hide their conversation from prying ears find them very useful. Other than around the house, white noise sound machines are also very effective in the college dorm or office. Anywhere where white noise can be used to mask noise and distraction (like keyboard tapping or gossip) while someone may be studying, or doing work which requires them to concentrate, a white noise sound machine will prove to be invaluable. It can even be found in the consultation rooms of therapists. To experience what a white noise sound machine can do for your mental health and well-being, or to create a moment away from the daily grind of the world right in your home, try the Sleep mate 980, or any of a number and range of models from Sound Machines Direct. Many business professionals crave time for a get away vacation, far from the cities and the noisy surroundings. For this reason, many plan their vacations to the county or go to far away lands to enjoy serene moments with their loved ones. Unfortunately, buying out time for vacation may be costly and there is no guarantee that you would still not hear the sounds of dogs barking, noisy housemates and the like. If you just wish to relax and free your mind with the unwanted sound, you can use a white noise that masks the noise from penetrating your ears, thus avoiding annoyance in the first place. From the barking dogs to your noisy housemate, the white noise machine covers all the unwanted sound - even your snoring mate. It is for this reason that white noise is also called “the sleeping mate” for it allows you to sleep deeply while the device is on. Noise is a nuisance if you just want to relax and have a good sleep all night long. If your sleep is disturbed by too many dogs barking that are too sensitive to any noise they hear, your best resort to keep their barks from bugging you is to acquire a white noise machine. All you have to do is position it near your bed or wherever you want to. Then turn it on before you sleep or whenever you feel like some peace within your house. The white noise works in a way that it masks and covers the whole area that your ears are capable of hearing. The device does not shut the barking dogs off for it does not isolate one barking dog from the other. Instead, this device creates a soothing sound contrary to the simultaneous sounds of many dogs barking in the neighborhood or exchanges of speeches of your housemates. Remember, annoyance from sound actually comes from an isolated sound breaking a total silence. In this regard, the white noise machine or digital white noise cd allows unified sound resonance thus disconnecting silence from noise. There are many kinds of white noise machines and they come with sound conditioners like the Sleep Mate 980, the SoundScreen 980 Marpac and the like. The latter is highly recommended by the doctors for individuals who are greatly affected with noise. Copyright 2007, All Rights Reserved. There are no specific causes of bedwetting, though doctors attribute the condition to a number of different factors. Stress, fears, anxiety, and immature bladder and heavy sleep may all contribute to the common problem of bedwetting. Though it is a frustrating occurrence, the goal must be on helping the child learn how to wake up during the night and use the bathroom, rather then wetting the bed. Over the years, doctors have prescribed a number of different prescription medications to help curb bedwetting, but these have their risks. The two most popular drugs used to treat bedwetting include Desmospressin and Imiparmine. Desmopressin works by causing the bladders to produce less urine, and Imiparmine works oppositely. Imiparmine works by allowing the child’s bladder to store more urine, thereby allowing the child to sleep through the night and relieve their bladder upon awakening. You can see that both of these drugs work by causing the body to act in an unusual manner and do very little to actually train the child to become aware of when they need to use the restroom. Using a bedwetting alarm offers many advantages compared to using drugs. First, a bedwetting alarm will not cause any harm or damage to your child. Additionally, a bedwetting alarm is highly useful for actually retraining your child to wake up and use the restroom. When you select a bedwetting alarm, you will have your choice in selecting from models such as the PottyMD Wetstop 2 Alarm which alerts the child through a buzzer, or an alarm. The alarms are equipped to sound as soon as a drop of liquid is released. The child in turn wakes up and can use the restroom. This is the most effective way to train the child properly and ensure that they learn the necessary skills to make it through the night without wetting the bed. It is important that you make certain the child has easy access to the restroom when using a bedwetting alarm. Since your child will be awakened during the night, ensure that there is ample lighting so he or she can find the bathroom easily. It is important to realize that many children are very self-conscious about wetting the bed, and sometimes this actually aggravates the problem. Some children are so anxious about wetting the bed; they wet the bed due to the added stress and anxiety. You should always help your child with bedwetting issues in a calm and gentle manner. Always reassure your child that he or she will master bed-wetting and do your best not to make them feel more embarrassed then they already do. By using a bed wetting alarm, having a bit of patience, and a gentle attitude your child will learn to stop wetting the bed. Copyright 2007, All Rights Reserved. If you travel a lot, then you definitely need to buy a white noise machine. These little devices are sworn upon by many travelers, and allow for you to block out any noises that may be bothering you. Technically speaking, white noise machines don’t produce actual white noise. That would be far too harsh to actually allow for the benefits experienced. Instead, they produce a softer noise, called “pink” noise. This has less of a harsh tone, and allows for the many positives that noise machine users attest to. If have been considering buying one yourself, read on to find out what they can do for you. How many times have you been faced with unwanted noise while traveling? Maybe the people in the next room are drunk and watching the TV at full volume while you want to sleep. Maybe you’d like to sleep in, but you’re being awakened by the local wildlife whose noises you have not learned to ignore yet. Or maybe you just want to take a nap on an airplane. The reason you can’t sleep in all of these situations is that you are being faced with a dynamic sound that is constantly changing. When the sound changes slightly, your brain pays attention to it to make sure it’s not important. The trick of a white noise machine is keeping the same noise with you at all times, and getting used to it. In order for the white noise machine to work best, you should start using it whenever you sleep. It may bother you the first few nights, but eventually you will grow accustomed to having its constant hiss, and it will even become slightly comforting. You start at a low volume in situations where you don’t need to drown anything out. At this low volume, your ears will get used to the new sound. Then, when you’re in a situation where you need to drown out some noise, you can crank up the volume and still get to sleep well. Due to the popularity of white noise machines, you should have no problem whatsoever finding one that suits your needs. There are machines available in all forms. The most popular models for travel are the Marpac Marsona TSC-330 and Marpac SleepMate 980. You can get integrated alarm clock white noise machines with advanced features such as timing and frequency, or you can get simple battery-powered machines that are small and portable. If you’ve ever had trouble sleeping in an unfamiliar location, then you should consider getting a white noise machine so that next time you can be prepared. Copyright, All Rights Reserved.
