What can help Nightmares?

I have been suffering from bad dreams lately. I wake up a few times during the night with a feeling of foreboding. What kind of sounds do you think would be best for me?

Personally I like just white or pink noise for sleeping. This blocks out barking dogs, noisy neighbors and house noises.

I have a child who suffers from nightmares and I got him a night light that isn't very bright and that seems to help him when he wakes up at night. I also make sure I keep one in the bathroom in case he has to go. Other than that I don't know what to use since his dreams have nothing to do with the outside noise but rather with dreams of objects.

Have you tried herbal supplements such as melatonin? Sometimes something mild would let you sleep deeper and banish the disturbing dreams. Nightmares are sometimes triggered by outside stimuli such as sounds or light. Banishing light from the bedroom may help or as a previous poster suggested light may help, it's just an individual preference. Take a good hot bath/shower before you go to bed. Make sure you don't eat too much before you go to bed and make sure the environment is comfortable. I hope the nightmares go away for you. It is so disturbing to continually have nightmares.
